“Don’t gussy up your thoughts.”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, Book 3.5
Below you can find links to the pages of each of the authors, where you can find all the Stoic quotes you’re looking for. Please feel free to use them for your own work or inspiration. A link to these pages would be very much appreciated. We can see a lot of quotes popping up online, but there aren’t many with their references. The Stoic quotes we’ve seen are often difficult to locate; that’s why we hope that this resource of quotes will add to that missing information.
Besides that, this process of writing has shown me that there are a lot of false quotes out there. We must remain vigilant, and if not sure, try not to use them. Gregory Sadler, a philosopher and professor, has made several videos debunking wrong quotes attributed to some of the most famous philosophers we know. Here are the links to some of his videos: Aristotle, Plato, and Marcus Aurelius. Be mindful of the quotes you use and check their origin.
Here are the links to the Stoic quotes and others that I’ve used throughout my blog.

Epictetus Quotes
Click here to go to the page of Epictetus quotes. If you want to learn a bit more about Epictetus, here is a little introduction.
Epictetus was born a slave but passed away as one of the most renowned Stoic teachers. He never wrote anything himself, but a student of his, Arrian, took detailed notes of his teaching. That’s where we can find a lot of his quotes. Although I think he is a bit obscure with the general public, his wisdom deserves to be better known.

Although not a Stoic himself, he did refer to a lot of the Stoic works. We know a lot about Stoicism from his works because so much of it was handed down to us. Here are the ones I used in my blog, and this list will keep on growing for sure.
Diogenes Laertius Quotes

Diogenes Laertius was a historian who wrote about all the ancient philosophers. He is one of our best sources on the lives of these wise men. Since most of the texts are now lost, these books provide a wealth of information and knowledge.

Not only do we look at Stoic quotes, but we venture outside the world of Stoicism as well to find the truth. One source that we’ve used is the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu. By clicking here, you can find the list of quotes used on this website and their references by Lao Tzu.

Thank you, Fransic. It’s always nice to read quotes, I agree. These are some of the big names in Stoicis today. At least because some of their writing and thoughts has survived.

Love the Epictetus quote. Although I have people around me I’m often most content on my own and happy with the fact that I can definitely rely on myself.

Thank you for sharing that with me. Relying on oneself is very important for a healthy existence.
